Mother's Scream - an expression of love?
The ‘unconditional love of the mother’ has many images. One of the best known is that of Mary, our mother. Pure and kind. An ideal? For MOTHER'SSCREAM, director Katharina Simons, together with the performers Elina Brams Ritzau, Friederike Heine and ZoeKnights, looks beneath the veil of this mother icon and attempts to scrutinise this representation of mothers through various forms of screaming.
Hidden situations of ‘mothering’ are brought to the surface through the body's own sounds and noises. Which cries are familiar to us and which are difficult to bear? Which sounds can only unfold in silence and which remain silent forever?
The second part of the performance and research trilogy ‘MOTHER'S SHIP - a processual opening’ is being created as part of the ‘fo(u)r exchange’ residency programme.
The trilogy deals with the topic of being a mother and consciously distances itself from the topic of motherhood.
MOTHER'S SHIP is not about the everyday life of bringing up children. MOTHER'S SHIP is not an insight into parenthood.
MOTHER'S SHIP leaves the heteronormative playing field and wants to look beneath the veil of maternal icons and
free the phenomenon of ‘mothering’ from its myth and strengthen it.
And asks: ‘Can anyone be a mother?’
